"Kalaimamani" Dr. Mrs. Uma Anand, BA, MA, PhD
Kalaimamani Uma Anand, the daughter of the Legendary Guru, the late Padmashri K.N. Dandauthapani Pillai has been teaching Bharathanatyam for over 35 years. Sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural relations she has traveled widely while also winning a Senior Fellowship from the Government of India for Research on Padams and Javalis. A leading Researcher and Teacher of Nattuvaangam she acquired recognition as Kalaimamani from the Tamilnadu State in 1991 and also acquired a PhD in Nattuvaangam while serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Annamalai University. Dr. Mrs. Uma Anand has been associated with the Annamalai Canada Campus since 2006 as the Head of Bharathanatyam servicing the B. A and M. A. programs of the Annamalai University’s Distance Education initiatives.
Mrs. Suryakala Jeevananthan, BA, MA
Mrs. Suryakala Jeevananthan did her Bachelor and MA Degrees in Fine Arts at the Bharathidasan University, Trichirapalli. Taught Bharathanatyam at Shriram Bharathiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi and some schools in Colombo. She had Established her own Institute, Shriram Shrishti School of Bharathanatyam in Colombo and had prepared 26 students for their Arangetrams. In addition, she also had prepared 16 students for Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Bharathanatyam at various Universities.
